Swedish media covered Thunbergs protest, and also spread the word about her protest. Shortly thereafter thousands of students across the globe joined her #FridaysforFuture protests, skipping class on Fridays to demonstrate against the effects of climate changes. In 2019 climate campaigners around the world joined together for the initial Global Strike for Climate. This was a huge success. There were more than 1.6 million participants from more than 125 countries took part.
